Dear Parents and Guardians,
October began with the celebration of Read-In week. We hosted many community leaders as guest readers including Mayor Stephen Mandel. We also enjoyed visits from special family and friends of Abbott/R.J. Scott Schools. Of course this would not have occurred without the hard work of staff member, Maureen Goyette who once again planned this special event! Maureen also organized another successful School Book Fair in September. Thank you to everyone for spreading the joy of reading in our community.
Please expect our next School Newsletter Friday November 2, 2012. It will include details of our Remembrance Day Assembly and student achievement results from the previous school year.
At the end of September the number of students attending the twinned schools was as follows:
- Abbott Site: 230 students
- R. J. Scott Site: 115 students
We have welcomed many new faces to our school community including new families and new staff members. In fact this week, two new staff joined us. Educational Assistant Ms. Anca Daraban at R.J. Scott and FNMI Liaison Ms. Holly Yuzicapi. Holly will provide support and programming to our First Nations, Metis and Inuit students at both school sites. We are excited to continue the work with our students in helping them develop their literacy skills, become positive citizens, and be curious, critical thinkers.
During the first week of October we held our first School Council Meeting. We had a large turnout of parents for the meeting. One of the discussions at School Council was about when it would be best to hold the meetings. On the last page of the newsletter you will find attached a survey suggesting some possible times for our school meetings. We would like to hear from parents to help us determine when best to hold our monthly School Council Meetings. Please complete it and return it to your child’s teacher or the school office by Thursday October 25, 2012. We look forward to your input.
Please note the time of our October 29th School Assemblies for both Abbott and R.J. Scott are included in the school newsletter. We hope you will join us.
Mrs. R. Borchert
