Illness/Injury
Normally children who are too ill to go outside at recess are too ill to be at school. This is particularly true in the case of children with severe colds. Children coming to school with severe colds are unable to function well at school and provide a source of infection for other children. We urge that you keep your child at home under such conditions and notify the school. The school and the community health nurse must be contacted if your child has chicken pox and the school must be contacted if your child has lice. First aid is administered to any child experiencing an injury at school. If the injury is a minor scratch or bump, first aid is administered and no contact is made with the home. If a student becomes ill while at school , we will attempt to contact the parent/guardian or person listed for emergencies. Only after contact and approval by the parent or another responsible party will the child be sent home. If no contact can be made with a responsible adult, the child will be made as comfortable as possible until home time. If the illness or injury appears to be serious and we are unable to contact a responsible party, medical advice will be sought and followed.
Medications
Parents are encouraged to dispense any necessary medication at home if at all possible. If medication must be taken during school hours, please make arrangements with the office staff. School Board Policy requires that a form be signed by the doctor and at least one parent indicating the nature and dispensing of required drugs for those students taking mediation at school. Forms are available in the school office. Please advise the school of any changes in dosage of regular medication. Medication will not be administered until these forms are completed.
Dress and Footwear
Suitable dress and footwear should be worn depending on existing weather conditions. Children are required to remove their outside footwear upon entering into the school. It is expected that they have a pair of indoor shoes preferably white soled or non marking running shoes at school at all times. Please label all footwear.
